The Clever Giant and the Stone Bridge
Long ago, in the rolling green hills of Ireland, there lived a giant named Finn McCool. He was strong, brave, and very proud of his strength.
One morning, while Finn was eating his breakfast, his clever wife Una brought him a letter.
"Finn," she said, "this is a challenge from a giant in Scotland named Benandonner. He says you are not as strong as you claim!"
Finn jumped to his feet. "Not strong? I will build a bridge across the sea and show him who the greatest giant is!"
Building the Great Bridge
And so Finn began lifting enormous hexagonal stones and throwing them into the sea. Day and night he worked, placing stone after stone, until a mighty path stretched across the water.
Today, people still visit the remains of this legendary path, known as the Giant’s Causeway.
When the bridge was finished, Finn proudly crossed to Scotland to meet his rival.
A Terrifying Discovery
But when he saw Benandonner, Finn’s confidence disappeared. The Scottish giant was enormous — far bigger than he had imagined!
Finn ran back home in fear. "Oh Una," he cried, "he’s huge! I’ve built him a road straight to our door!"
Una’s Brilliant Plan
Una did not panic. She smiled thoughtfully.
"Shave your beard," she said, "and climb into this cradle. You are going to pretend to be our baby."
"Our baby?!" Finn gasped.
"If Benandonner thinks our baby is this big," Una explained, "he will imagine how gigantic the father must be!"
Finn agreed. Soon he lay in the cradle, pretending to be a baby. "Goo goo... ga ga..." he growled.
The Giant Gets Frightened
When Benandonner arrived, Una welcomed him kindly. "My husband is out," she said sweetly, "but would you like to see our baby?"
Benandonner looked into the cradle and froze. The "baby" was enormous!
"If this is the baby..." he whispered, "how big must the father be?"
Suddenly, he remembered something "very important" back in Scotland. Without another word, he ran across the bridge — smashing the stones behind him so Finn could never follow!
The Lesson
Finn climbed out of the cradle and laughed with relief.
"Perhaps true strength is not only about muscles," Finn admitted. "Sometimes, it is about wisdom."
Una smiled proudly. "And sometimes," she said, "it is about working together."
And so, the stones of the Giant’s Causeway remain — not as a monument to pride, but as a reminder that brains can be stronger than brawn.
✨ Moral of the Story: True strength comes from teamwork, wisdom, and knowing when to ask for help.
